Native America in Northern New Mexico!
About Taos Pueblo:
The most scenic and northernmost of all the pueblos, the Pueblo of Taos is nestled at the base of the highest mountains of New Mexico. The multi-storied adobe village was designated a World Heritage Site in 1992 and inspired what is known as the "Pueblo style" of architecture in New Mexico. Taos Pueblo spearheaded the Pueblo Revolt in 1680 which was a tribal success due to the united effort of all the pueblos. The pueblo is located 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) north of the town of Taos and is open daily to visitors most of the year. The pueblo closes for ceremonial purposes periodically, so please call ahead. The Taos Pueblo people are very skilled in leatherwork which is evident in their drum and moccasin making. Visitors can enjoy native foods and browse through shops scattered around the plaza. (Photography and recording devices are strictly prohibited during dances and feast days.)
